Whenever a major honors show approaches, one notices an outcry to include additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.
Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything during that awards season
- Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles globally maintaining this status for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
